FAQ

Here is some information that might be helpful! Can’t find what you’re looking for? Drop me a line on the contact page.

  • My pieces are primarily made from a buff stoneware clay, which has been tested to ensure vitrification - this means the clay is fired to a temperature where it becomes non-porous and is watertight, making it perfect for functional use.

While I occasionally explore other clay bodies, I will always include a note in the product description on what clay body has been used.

I also do my best to reduce waste where possible, and I reclaim and recycle all of my clay scraps to create new work.

  • My ceramics can be used in the dishwasher, however I always recommend hand-washing to ensure the longest life for your piece. Handmade ceramics can be sensitive to the ‘thermal shock’ of sudden temperature changes and the harsh detergents of a dishwasher. If you want your ceramics to stay beautiful for years to come, a gentle hand-wash is best!

  • While I usually sell these only at in-person markets, I might occasionally list them online. These are discounted pieces that don’t quite meet my standards, but remain fully functional. I will always be transparent, and every listing will note why a piece has been listed as a second.

  • Yes! I’d be delighted to discuss larger orders or bespoke batches of my existing designs. Please reach out via my Contact Page or hello@ceramicsbyemily.com to start the conversation.

To help me provide a quote and timeline, please include:

    • Type of Order: Is this for a shop (wholesale), a cafe/restaurant, or a personal commission?

    • Quantity & Style: Which of my designs are you interested in, and how many of each?

    • Timeline: Do you have a specific date or event you need these for?

    Good to know:

    • Lead Times: My production cycle is typically 6–8 weeks, depending on the size of the order and my current kiln schedule.

    • Custom Designs: I’m not currently accepting requests for entirely new designs or ‘one-off’ custom pieces. However, I’m more than happy to recreate any style or glaze combination you’ve seen in my previous work!
