Hi, I’m Emily Preston, a Dorset-based ceramicist who creates small-batch handmade pottery from my garden studio. Ceramics By Emily is my passion project, which I currently pursue alongside my day job, with the aim of curating intentional, functional wares to complement everyday living.

I craft rustic, homely pieces with a pleasing visual and physical texture. Through carving, the use of slip decoration and by exploring glazes, I have a minimalistic approach to my ceramics, often using a neutral colour palette. I work primarily with stoneware clay, mostly wheel-thrown but with the occasional hand-building venture too, to create joyful forms that feel comfortable and satisfying to hold. You may find the odd fingermark or swirl on my ceramics, as I enjoy leaving behind a nod to the making process.

Concepting a design, forming it with my hands from a ball of clay and firing it to become a tactile object to be used and cherished by someone else is nothing short of magic. It is this connection, from my home to another, that keeps me allured by the abilities of clay.

Each piece undergoes testing, trial and refinement to ensure it is durable and functional - my hope is for my work to be used and loved by you for a long time to come!
